Backing up and Restoring your Firebox image.

Using the flash disk backup is extremely important for users of VPN Manager.  It is the only way to backup VPN Manager as its configuration is not held in the normal configuration file, it is in an internal file on the Firebox itself.

It is also recommended to always do this when you have a good running Firebox.  Especially when upgrading software since a backup image holds the previous software image as well as the configuration file.  Down the road should something go wrong and you are not sure what it may be you can restore to this known good image.

To make a flash disk backup of your Firebox do the following.

In System Manager, click the Wg Icon and navigate to Flash Disk Management as below.

Select "Make Backup of current image"

Follow the prompts to connect to the Firebox with the configuration phrase, give the backup a password (don't forget it!) and it will save a time/day stamped file to /program files/watchguard/backup when completed.

To restore a backup go to this same tool and select "Restore backup image" and select the file to restore, provide the password for the file, provide the Firebox configuration passphrase and it will restore the backup image.
